First Visit At Pure Wellness Chiropractic & Massage

Patient Forms
Upon entering our office, our receptionist will welcome you as a member of our family. We will request that you complete our patient forms located in the New Patient Center. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information on your condition. We also use the latest health questionnaires to determine specific conditions such as concussions, headaches, low back pain, nutritional deficiencies, just to name a few.

Inititial Consultation
Next, you will have a consultation with either Dr. Mike or Dr. Michele to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for the doctors to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals. At this portion of your visit, we will obtain a complete health history, detail previous injuries that may have contributed to your present condition, and any family history that may be pertinent to your current state of health. Only if the doctor feels that he/she can help you will we move forward with the evaluation.
Dr. Michele focuses on pediatrics and prenatal care as well as nutritional consultations only.
Examination
After your consultation, Dr. Michael Dornbusch will perform a complete chiropractic examination testing your reflexes and flexibility. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests will be performed as well. However, nothing will be done in our office without your consent.

Myovision surface EMG
The myovision sEMG scan allows us to measure the muscle activity around the spine to see if you have abnormal levels of muscle tension. We can also determine if the patient has muslce imbalances from left to right that can be detrimental to their health.

Myovision Thermography
Thermography allows us to measure the functioning of your autonomic nervous system and thus your overall level of neurological stress.
Each of the nerves leaving the spinal column innervates specific areas of the skin, thus dividing the body into a patterned form known as dermatomes. There are eight cervical, twelve thoracic, five lumbar, and five sacral dermatomes.
The nervous system uses vasoconstriction and vasodilatation of the capillary bed to help regulate body temperature. Irritations cause the skin’s natural temperature symmetry to fall out of balance from the left to right side of the spine.

Digitial Dual Inclinometry
Active Range of Motion measurements are a key component of all of our exams and need to be measured precisely. This will allow us to accurately determine the patient’s level of spinal dysfunction as well as their improvement with our care over time. Reduced range of motion that continually generates pain is also recognized as an impairable health problem and can lead to whole body impairment ratings throught the AMA, so it’s very important to accurately measure this part of the exam. The myovision range of motion is recognized by the AMA guidelines as an effective measurement tool.

Dynamic EMG and ROM
We sometimes find it necessary to measure the patients active range of motion at the same time as performing a dynamic EMG study. This will allow us to measure the performance of the motor nerve that controls certain spinal muscles with each movement.
Specifically, MyoVision’s DynaROM™ simultaneously measures muscle activity and Range of Motion, so we can see graphically, not only the “quality of motion,” but if muscle guarding (a critical measure of patient’s level of pain) occurs. This patented device allows us to objectively document a patient’s response to soft tissue injury.
Kinetisense Movement Assessment Technology

Kinetisense: Posture
Posture assessment of the patient is crucial with the patients overall health since we are assessing how the patient interacts with gravity. Over time the body adapts to the constant pull of the earth’s gravity on the body, but mainly the joints. If the patient excessively leans to one side, or too far forward or backward, the body will intuitively adapt to compensate for the additional stress. This can lead to increased wear and tear on the joints and neurological adapation as well.

Kinetisense: Balance Assessment
The balance assessment is very important when measuring neurological function. It’s also crucial for patients involved in a motor vehicle collision in assisting the doctor in determining concussion status. It’s also a necessary tool in the evaluation of older patients who may have hidden balance issues that they may not be aware of.

Kinetisense: Range of Motion
Sometimes it is necessary to measure the range of motion of the patient in more than one method or in a non spinal area of the body other than the spine. The kinetisense accurately measures and video’s the exam to show what deficits are present at the time of examination.

Digital X rays
Our office utilizes the most advanced technology when taking any necessary x rays to help minimize the patient dose and get the best quality images possible. We only take x rays when absolutely necessary and are very conscious of the patient’s health when it comes to the accumulation unnecessary exposure to radiation, which is why we invested in digital radiography. We can also see the images within 30 seconds of taking the x ray so we’ll be able to quickly determine the patient’s spinal health and see any contraindications to care.
Treatment Program
At the conclusion of this initial appointment, you can choose to experience your first treatment. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapy, and/or soft tissue massage. Treatment is interactive, so you can express concerns about the different styles of treatment anytime.
Wellness Program
Prior to leaving, the doctor will suggest a wellness program to incorporate outside of treatment. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include: ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches. If you desire, our wellness team will work with you also to create healthy habits and routines for your lifestyle. Every person is unique, therefore everyone requires a customized wellness plan. The purpose of our wellness program is for you to achieve good spinal alignment, have a healthy diet, exercise, and maintain a positive mental state.
2nd Visit
Report of Findings
Once the information is collected and examinations are performed, Dr. Michael Dornbusch will give you a detailed report of all findings and answer any questions including:
- How can you help me?
- How often do I need to come in?
- What will my treatment cost?
After reviewing your health history, goals, and examining your spine and X-rays, Dr. Michael Dornbusch will discuss recommendations and notify you if your condition requires care with other providers. Dr. Michael Dornbusch will provide the best treatment and wellness program for your needs.
